Greetings, everybody! I am NOT finished covering the 8-bit Sonic tracks with YM2612 instrumentation. Next on this series is a track from an (unfortunately) hated and obscure title called Sonic Blast. In my view, the graphics (an aspect everyone dislikes) are impressive, considering the Game Gear's hardware is limited, but I digress. Silver Castle is an underappreciated bop that was calling for a Genesis/Mega Drive remix. Using a wide selection of FM patches from the Sonic 2 soundbank, this is what I came up with at the end. Honestly, while the stage itself barely resembles a castle, the original composition captures the feel. I ensured to expand on that mood by using a flute-like instrument, as well as "violins." The original track carries similar vibes to Sunset Park Act 3, which is expected since Kojiro Mikusa composed both. Happy listening!
Fun fact #1: A friend of mine, Jared the Alpaca King, requested a remix of this theme (patiently waiting SINCE 2017). Unfortunately, it took this long to tackle the track as I had no idea how to build upon it. Be sure to check out Jared's phenomenal remix as well. For the custom verse, I was inspired by that remix mentioned above!
Fun fact #2: Before getting reworked, the custom verse initially was a disaster. There was no solid melody, and it sounded like a mesh of random notes thrown in without thought. In fact, it essentially resembled the one I made with Gigalopolis, but much inferior.
