The Hymns Project arose from a desire to blend together the beauty and goodness of traditional songs with the power and passion of the modern worship movement. Drawing from the rich treasury of hymns, we seek to give joyful and fresh voice to these well-known expressions of praise in a way that can unite the Body of Christ across generations.

The text for this hymn was derived from an ancient Irish poem that was translated and set to the tune we know today in the early 20th century. Similar to the Lorica of St. Patrick, it is a prayer for God’s protection and presence.
