Highly skilled craftspeople repeat the painting and sanding process many times while continuing to achieve a rich and beautiful finish and high hardness. In addition, the finish is extremely thin, so it doesn't disturb shell vibration. Textured finishes were explicitly developed for the flagship PHX drums and are characteristic of the series. By applying a coating that is less than half the thickness of standard finishes that hugs the minute natural contours of the wood surface, the natural beauty of the wood grain is prominent. At the same time, shell damping is reduced to an absolute minimum.

As a general musical instrument manufacturer, we have a broad base of finishing technology from which to draw, including piano finishing that demands exceptionally high levels of know-how and experience. To achieve these beautiful glossy finishes, every step must be carried out by hand with care and competence that can only be learnt through years of practice. These steps include the consistent application of coatings by wiping and spraying combined with meticulous sanding and buffing. Matte finishes are no easier to produce, requiring multiple levels of accomplished craftsmanship.
