This is my review of the new Monster High doll (or dolls, depending on how you look at it), Peri & Pearl Serpentine, who are from the Great Scarrier Reef line. Great Scarrier Reef is an upcoming Monster High movie (to be released in early 2016) about Lagoona Blue and her best ghoulfriends returning to her home in the Great Scarrier Reef (obviously the Monster world equivalent of the Great Barrier Reef).
Peri & Pearl Serpentine are "Hissters" and daughters of the Hydra, which is why they have two heads (the hydra was a mythological creature with multiple heads, poisonous breath, and venomous blood). Peri & Pearl have to be the world's first two-headed fashion doll (although I could be wrong)...and even if they aren't the first, they are certainly the most gorgeous, in my opinion.
Peri is the one with mostly blue hair, with a streak of white, while Pearl is the one with mostly white hair, with streaks of blue. Both have blue eyes, delicate scales on their cheekbones and around their noses, as well as ridges in their noses. Peri wears a sky-blue eyeshadow and mauve lips, however, while Pearl sports lime-green eyeshadow on the inner lid and light purple eyeshadow on the outer lid. She also wears coral lips.
Apparently Peri & Pearl Serpentine both love baubles and gems - they aspire to be "ghoulery" designers one day. Gold is especially a favorite with them, judging by the copious amount of it on their necks and at their waist. Peri wears a gold dangling earring in her right ear, while Pearl has a hot pink one in her left ear. Speaking of ears - you have to check them out on these dolls. You won't see it unless you specifically look, but they are webbed! How cool is that?!
They wear a short-sleeved tunic top covered in brilliant shades of aquamarine, hot pink, gold, yellow, and black - all representing the variegated shades of marine life. Their lower half is really a long serpentine tail adorned with scales and fins and decorative striations.
Peri & Pearl's bottom half is dark blue, with hot pink fins at the hips and aqua fins near the bottom. The tip of their tail is decorated with hot pink beads. Their arms and necks are covered in scales, and their arms even sprout fins. I also like the fact that their hands have webbing in between each finger!
When you turn off the light, Peri & Pearl do glow (the fins at their hips, anyway). They have several points of articulation: their heads do turn, but obviously not too far or they'd "bump," they can bend at the waist, swivel at the "knee," sway at the bottom, and the tip of their tail can also move back and forth. They can also be made to lie flat, if desired. And just as advertised, they require no stand.
The diary of Peri & Pearl Serpentine is utterly hilarious. It starts off with Peri describing how she ate "swellfish" and caused Pearl to break out all over. The Hissters fight, then divide their room down the middle, facing a multitude of reactions from their multitude of parental heads (Parent #1, #2, and #3). It was super-fun to read!
Well, I hope you liked my in-depth review of the new Peri & Pearl Serpentine doll. I am looking forward to watching the Great Scarrier Reef movie in spring of 2016 and learning more about these gorgeous "Hissters." Let me know in the comments below what you think of them!
