Kill Pannun Plot: Indian accused Nikhil Gupta extradited to US, pleads not guilty in the Court

Indian National Nikhil Gupta arrived at the Manhattan Federal Courthouse in New York City at 12:30 PM. 52-year-old Gupta was allegedly involved in a plot to kill Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. He was extradited to the US from the Czech Republic on June 14 to face the Federal Court. The Indian National, suspected by the US pleaded ‘not guilty’ at a Federal Court in the US on June 18. Gupta's US-based lawyer, attorney Jeffrey Chabrowe stated that a bail application would be filed later. The next court hearing is on June 28 at 2 pm in the same court before the judge, Victor Marrero. Notably, the discovery of alleged assassination plots in the US has brought India-US ties under the spotlight. In Nov 2023, US Justice Dept officials announced charges against Gupta after he was arrested in June 2023 in the Czech Republic. Indian Govt has dissociated itself from the plot against Pannun, saying it was against government policy. The Indian Government said it would formally investigate security concerns raised by Washington.
