Justin Frye is officially announced as Ohio State’s next O-line Coach, coming over from UCLA. Frye and Ryan Day coached together at Boston College from 2013-14 and at Temple during the 2012 season
Greg Studrawa is out and Ryan Day has upgraded the Offensive line by poaching UCLA’s Offensive Coordinator and OL coach away from Chip Kelly. Many have been calling for Ohio State and Ryan Day to make this hire for years, including Florida Cory.

Our take: Frye will be just fine at Ohio State as a recruiter as a 38 year old guy who knows football and can relate to the recruits.
Ryan Day making MORE coaching changes? Rumors persist that Ohio State will look at add a secondary coach, like Matt Gerrier from Duke, which would lead to Kerry Coombs being the odd man out on this staff

2022 recruiting news: Hero Kanu, a 4 star defensive tackle in the class of 2022 commits to the Buckeyes at the Army All-American game over the weekend
Ohio State landing the commitment from Kanu suggests that Buckeyes defensive line coach Lary Johnson is staying around and is still going strong with a great 2022 defensive line class including Amari Abor, Caden Curry among others.

UCLA posted one of college football’s best rushing offenses in recent seasons thanks in large part to Frye’s offensive line. In 2021, the Bruins’ averaged 215.1 rushing ypg # 17 nationally, and ran for at least 200 yards in all eight wins.
He grew up in the Midwest and played in the Big Ten as a starting OL at Indiana from 2002-06
At 38 years old, Frye continues Ryan Day’s trend of hiring younger coaches: Former DC Jeff Hafley was just 39 years old, Al Washington was just 34 when hired, and Matt Barnes (now Memphis DC) was just 32 when Day hired him in 2019. Buckeyes QB coach Corey Dennis was just 27 when he was promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2020, while special teams coordinator Parker Fleming was just 32 when he was promoted in 2021.
