The Philips VR2023 is not my favourite V2000 format video recorder. So why try to fix one?

The first generation of V2000 machines from Philips were never the best. So why would I try to fix one? And what then happens to my favourite V2000 video recorder? Nobody ever said that V2000 machines were reliable.
