Over the weekend of Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th June 2023, the Welsh Highland Railway celebrated its Centenary.

The original route from Dinas Junction to Porthmadog was completed in July 1923.

Welsh Highland Railway: 100 was a joint event organised by Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways, the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway and the Welsh Highland Heritage Group.

The event celebrated the Welsh Highland Railways history, with the Friday focusing on Pre-1923 and the Opening, the Saturday focusing on Welsh Highland 'Like the Photo's' (1923-1940s) and the Sunday celebrating the revival and a look to the future.

This video features footage of:
Russell, Welsh Pony and Meriden Emrys hauling authentic Heritage Trains between Porthmadog and Rhyd Ddu
Mary Ann hauling a Recreation of the 1940's 'Demolition Trains'
Garratt's 87 & 130 hauling 'Snowdonia Star' & 'Harbourmaster' Services
Lyd & Russell double-heading the last service train of the Weekend
A few old vs new photo recreations that were made possible by the train formations and timetables over the weekend

(The recently restored 'Baldwin 590' was due to make its WHR Mainline Passenger debut over the weekend, but sadly had to be withdrawn from the line up due to a fault)

The event was an unprecedented collaboration between the Three Narrow-Guage Railways of Porthmadog and many of its supporting groups. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the event.

(The 100th Anniversary of the Dinas to Rhyd Ddu section opening was celebrated the previos year over the weekend of the 30th & 31st July 2022. A video of that event can be found here:    • F&WHR - WHR 100: South Snowdon: 30th ...  )
