In Brookeville, we are introduced to a high tech type of farming which uses fish waste as fertilizer. The unlikely substance is used in a system called aquaponics where plants grow in water shared by fish. The waste fertilizes the plants and the plants clean the water. This cyclic process helps to establish eco-friendly practices and cost-effective farming. As a matter of fact, the greens grown at Bella Vita Farm can be bought or even paired with freshly-grilled tilapia which is also sold at the farm as a meal.
