Heritage Talk: Repair and Renewal - HMS Victory's Timber Rase Marks

Описание к видео Heritage Talk: Repair and Renewal - HMS Victory's Timber Rase Marks

Only part of the oldest commissioned warship in the world, Nelson’s HMS Victory, fought at Trafalgar. Wood rots and the hull and decks of Nelson’s ship have had to be periodically renewed. Maritime archaeologist Graham Scott will explain how a study of hundreds of incised markings found on Victory’s timbers has given us insights into that process and the history of this iconic ship since 1805. As a bonus Graham will also talk about a rare object recovered during dredging of Portsmouth Harbour for the new aircraft carriers and its possible link with Victory.
