My First Poem

A POET is a brand that reworks discarded textiles and fabrics from the thrift to create 1 of 1 pieces. Our mission is to provide the community with affordable handmade pieces of art. My craft involves reworking items but maintaining certain design elements of the garment while totally transforming the aesthetic form of the design. This allows me to rework textiles in a time effective manner, keeping my labour costs low. In return I can sell pieces to my community for $150 or less. I aim to create opportunity to own high fashion and unique art for those who have less disposable income than the typical demographic who purchases handmade.

The Collection - My First Poem
It’s deeply personal, it represents my mixed-race identity and the harmony I’m finally finding within it. I’m predominantly using repurposed traditional South Asian garments- saris, bangles, beadwork and transforming them into what I call “city-girl outfits.” They’re sensual, contemporary, and designed for the same nightlife, street style, and glamour we see in Western silhouettes. But they carry the craftsmanship, colour, and ornamentation of the East.

There is room in contemporary fashion for our colours, our embroidery, our maximalism, our stories
