The Lifeline Express is the world's first Hospital Train that reaches those who cannot reach a hospotal, bringing high-tech medical care to the under-served rural and tribal communities across India in particular.

Launched in 1991, the 5 coach hospotal service is now a thriving, modern 7 coach hospotal on wheels and provides medical services and related health initiatives to millions of people across the country.

Dr Mehak Sikka, one of the doctors working on the Lifeline Express told Newsivity:

"All our services delivered are completely free of charge and our team of doctors work in challenging environments, but deliver all services passionately because we want to provide to those who are unable to access medical services for many reasons. Lifeline Express is an innovative initiative that having started in India, is now used as a model in Cambodia, China, Bangladesh and many other countries around the world."

The Lifeline Express also attracts many volunteers to assist in the services, and during our visit, medical students from UK's Oxford University were staying on the train to learn more about the work and also receive training by the medical team.

Maia Patrick-Smith from Oxford University told Newsivity:

"The Lifeline Express is an incredible service that so many rely upon to receive medical treatment. Their Cancer screening and treatment model is particularly impressive and it has been such an amazing experience to stay here during our visit in India,"
