According to confidential sources close to the investigation one among the most devastating revelations is the story of a young female student whose life was cruelly snuffed out before it truly began.

Residents of Monigong claim she was impregnated by Yumken Bagra.

In an apparent attempt to conceal the pregnancy, Bagra allegedly provided the victim with contraceptive pills, which caused her to fall ill. The girl was subsequently sent home due to her deteriorating health, where she ultimately passed away.

In another distressing incident, a student reportedly attempted suicide in the school premises. The girl, overwhelmed by alleged abuse, tried to hang herself with her dupatta inside a toilet. Fortunately, two of her friends discovered her in time and prevented the attempt.

Perhaps most alarming is the allegation involving a child as young as 10 years old. Sources state that Bagra took the young girl into the woods one night. Upon their return the following day, the child fell ill and displayed bruises on her leg. She was rushed to the nearest health centre but tragically did not survive.

When questioned about the possibility of additional victims, Tanyong Samnam, a relative of one of the victims, said “while it's possible there are more victims, many may have chosen not to come forward due to the stigma and emotional pain associated with sexual assault.”

Bagra was arrested on November 13, 2022, in Nirjuli following an FIR filed by Tadam Samnam, father of two of the victims, on November 1, 2022, at the Monigong Police Station. Due to concerns about the initial investigation, the case was transferred to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on November 10, 2022.

Although Bagra was charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, he was granted bail by the local sessions court on February 23, 2023, sparking public outrage. The victims' families appealed to the Gauhati High Court, which took suo moto notice and revoked Bagra's bail on July 31, 2023, resulting in his re-arrest.

“With 21 victims involved and no fast-track court established, the delay in justice has persisted for two years, leaving us still waiting for justice for our children,” one of the parents said.
