Aerials is a song by System Of A Down, a heavy metal band from Glendale, California, formed in 1994. The song is the final track of their second album, Toxicity, released in 2001. It reached number one on both the Billboard Alternative Songs and Mainstream Rock charts, and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2003.

The song is about how people can lose their identities and become just like everyone else, following the mainstream and conforming to society's expectations. The lyrics use metaphors of waterfalls, rivers, and aerials to describe the cycle of life and death, and the illusion of free will and individuality. It also criticizes the greed and materialism of modern civilization, and the lack of awareness and spirituality among people.

System Of A Down is composed of four members of Armenian descent: Serj Tankian (lead vocals, keyboards), Daron Malakian (guitar, vocals), Shavo Odadjian (bass, backing vocals), and John Dolmayan (drums). All of them attended the same Armenian-American school in Los Angeles, but met later in life through their mutual interest in music. They named their band after a poem by Malakian, titled "Victims of a Down", which was inspired by the Armenian Genocide of 1915, a historical event that has influenced many of their songs and activism.

The band has released five studio albums, three of which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. They have sold over 12 million records worldwide, and have won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2006 for their song "B.Y.O.B.". The band is known for their unique and eclectic musical style, which incorporates elements of alternative metal, nu metal, heavy metal, hard rock, progressive metal, and Armenian folk music. They are also known for their political and social lyrics, which address topics such as war, genocide, human rights, censorship, religion, and environmentalism.

The band went on hiatus in 2006, due to creative differences and personal issues, and reunited in 2010 for a series of live shows. In 2020, they released two new songs, "Protect the Land" and "Genocidal Humanoidz", to raise funds and awareness for the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, a conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over a disputed territory. The band has stated that they are open to making a new album in the future, but have not confirmed any plans or dates.
