Recollections from Sean:
"My recollection is that I ran into Lou who asked me if I'd like to sing IDLT at that evening's set at Hampshire (I am a lifelong extreme Hendrix nut). Maybe it was all three of them. Location was one of the Prescott dorms. I think I'd recognize it by sight. Simon from All White Jury (Murph's old band) was upfront and let me know I needed to sing closer to the mic... I was sorta bellowing at it from a distance. Dino threw me with the arrangement, but that was OK... these things should be unpredictable. Jimi solos and comes back after the first chorus, so I was waiting for that to come around again. I realized that they had written another ending (the descending Neil Young Hurricane progression) so I wandered away from the mic. Simon and some people upfront were asking where I was going and motioning me to return. Everyone should hear their own voice at Dino volume once in their lifetime... that was an experience."

Recollections from the taper:

Band played in the common area of a suite of bedrooms in a dorm at Hampshire College. My friend Andy had a new Walkman and wanted to test it out. First few minutes weren't recorded because Andy was waiting for the "show" to start. Last few minutes weren't recorded because tape ran out and Andy was saving the other side of the tape for another band he was seeing later that week! They jammed for another 5 or 10 more minutes after he stopped recording.
I made my copy the next day. I can't recall the equipment used, but I'm sure it was crappy. Dolby B was also used... This transfer was made on another crappy tape deck with Dolby off as it sounded better that way. Despite all of this and the fact that I could barely get the tape to play, the recording and transfer came out fairly well. I think it is one of the better sounding recordings I've heard from this era of Dinosaur Jr. Enjoy.
