ABOUT Joss Stone (original press release of 2010)
She claims she didn't know what she was doing when she made her debut as a 16-year-old. But Joss Stone's reviewers were very impressed with the warm, soulful sound she produced. Her first CD, released in 2003 and titled The Soul Sessions, was filled with obscure cover songs. Introducing Joss Stone had more R&B and hip-hop and because of it sounded more commercial, although her deeply emotional voice remained a striking feature. On her latest CD, Colour Me Free, Stone seems to return to more organic sounding soul music. This suits her best, and she seems to agree. "Don't tell me that I'm not, I am... Don't tell me 'cause I know what's real, what I can do," is what she sings very self-conscious. At the age of eighteen she performed for the first time at North Sea Jazz; this time the British vocalist returns with a whole lot of new songs.
