So, Is Religion Banned?

Absolutely not. The Chinese Constitution guarantees citizens "freedom of religious belief" . The state protects normal religious activities, and no organization or individual may interfere with them . In Tibet alone, ordinary believers commonly have scripture rooms or Buddhist shrines at home, and festivals like Shoton and Saga Dawa are celebrated annually .
However, all religious activities must operate within the law — just like any other country. The government manages religious affairs to "protect the lawful, ban the unlawful, contain extremism, resist interference, and punish crime" .
So Why No Religious Wars?

Historical Integration, Not Imposition
Unlike in Europe, where religions often fought for political control, foreign religions entering China (Buddhism, Islam, Christianity) gradually integrated with Chinese culture rather than replacing it.
