There is more to mixing backing vocals than meets the eye!
You can be extremely creative with how you process your back up vocals, which can add extra excitement and character to your overall vocal mix!

You should treat your harmonies and double tracks a little differently to your lead vocals to create more contrast and separation between the layers.
