The reason animals have been spotted around London for a week is now clear.

Bansky’s ninth surprise artwork shows a gorilla lifting the shutter at ZSL London Zoo so that beasts and birds can escape.

Over the last eight days a goat, cat, fish, rhino, wolf plus elephants, monkeys and two pelicans have appeared around London.

The artwork, by the entrance to the zoo in Regent’s Park, was discovered when staff turned up for work early this morning.

They say they didn’t know what Bansky was planning – and confirmed that no gorillas have escaped before.
