The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is one of the largest and oldest multilateral development agencies in the world dedicated to industrial development. As a specialized agency of the United Nations, UNIDO’s core mission is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) in developing countries and economies in transition — a mandate that drives its global project and program work.

UNIDO’s mission focuses on reducing poverty and fostering economic growth by strengthening productive capacities, encouraging innovation, and building resilient industries. Its work aligns with the broader 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 9 — which calls for building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and fostering innovation.

To achieve these goals, UNIDO supports Member States through a combination of technical cooperation, policy advisory services, norms and standards development, and partnerships for knowledge and technology transfer. It operates via a global network of field offices and programmes that deliver tailored projects — from advancing clean energy and resource-efficient industry to boosting trade capacities and entrepreneurial development.
