Описание к видео Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley Summer Internship

Interns describe the summer internship at the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley.

Wildlife Rehabilitation Internship

Time Commitment: 12 Weeks. 24 hours per week, 3 days per week. Additional hours available if desired. Discussion groups every other week on Saturdays (Fridays for Term 4).

This is an unpaid on-the-job learning opportunity for dedicated, hard-working individuals interested in wildlife rehabilitation.

Coursework: Bi-weekly modules will be sent out via email, and will be reviewed at our bi-weekly discussion groups. Modules will entail reading material, and a series of questions on the reading that will be discussed in group format. During discussion, students will be able to relate their reading material to current cases/patients in the clinic and have a dialogue with the Wildlife Supervisor and other interns about rehabilitation procedures and practices at WCSV. There will be a final exam upon completion of the internship based off of both the reading material and rehabilitation procedures learned in the clinic.

Requirements: Applicants must be 16 years or older, have reliable transportation to and from WCSV, and should feel comfortable working with a variety of animals. Applicants should also be comfortable working in a team environment, and accepted interns will be expected to manage volunteers in a leadership role. Accepted interns must obey all health and safety mandates including but not limited to masking requirements, which are fluid due to the changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic. We require all staff, volunteers, and interns to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and due to the nature of wildlife rehabilitation work in the hospital, cannot make accommodations for religious or personal beliefs.

Application Process: Interested individuals can apply through the WCSV website and will fill out a few pre-screening questions during the application process. After applications are screened, the Volunteer Coordinator will contact selected applicants to schedule an interview. Applicants from outside of the Bay Area will be interviewed via Zoom, and will need to demonstrate that they can secure housing in the Bay Area for the duration of the internship. Please note that we are unable to assist with relocation or housing.

WCSV provides letters of recommendation for successful completion of the internship summarizing their coursework, accomplishments, and skills learned during the internship.

Term 1: April 3 to June 24

Term 2: May 29 to August 19

Term 3: June 26 to September 16

Term 4: July 10 to September 30

All questions about the internship or application process should be emailed to [email protected].

The Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley is dedicated to providing sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife with exceptional free care, rehabilitation, and the opportunity for release. We also aim to educate the public about coexisting peacefully with local wildlife.
