Captain Amit Singh, founder - Safety Matters Foundation, is a former head of airline flight operations and safety.

He speaks on the road ahead for investigations into the AI171 disaster that killed over 270 people.
He says the purpose of the investigation is to recreate the whole scenario – they will take all the parts they have found and try to reconstruct the aircraft. Investigators will see the metal parts and the direction in which they have curled. eg – if there is a blast inside an aircraft – the metal parts will curl outwards. Investigators will also have to rule out sabotage.
At the moment, he says, confirmation bias is setting in among experts about a double engine failure- but investigators have to work with an open mind.

While a preliminary report may be out within 30 days of the beginning of a formal investigation, it will only detail the sequence of events. A formal report on the root cause of the accident can be expected in 12 months.

Capt Singh says rebuilding Public trust is the most important - and so far, the airline has failed in its communications.
