How accurate is your image of ancient greek heroes? today I’m diving into greek history, mythology, and fashion history to draw a mythologically accurate Odysseus.

I wanted to explore what people from the time of the Odyssey would actually look like. To kick things off, I delved into Homer's original descriptions of Odysseus in the epic tale, uncovering the rich details that bring this legendary hero to life (Just kidding, the only thing Homer talks about are Odysseus’ muscles.)

Next, I took a closer look at the fashion trends of that era, discovering how the ancient greeks in the Bronze age dressed (AKA Mycenaen Greece). It’s fascinating to see how historical accuracy can influence character design!

I made sure to also look through my design as a character designer, though, and made sure to arrange details to highlight odysseus’ unique traits and personality.

And of course, I sprinkle in some fun facts along the way to keep things interesting! Did you know that ancient greek men wore makeup, the color purple was seen as royal, and that odysseus’ own father was missing during his childhood, just like what happened to odysseus and his son!
