This lecture is the first in a series about gas exchange. It starts by introducing what gas exchange is and what the partial pressures of gases are. It then discusses the partial pressure of gases specifically within the alveoli and deoxygenated blood plasma. Next it explains why a partial pressure gradient for oxygen between the air in the alveoli and the deoxygenated blood plasma within the pulmonary capillaries allows for oxygen to enter into the blood plasma. It finishes by explaining Henry's Law and what oxygenated blood plasma within the pulmonary capillaries looks like.
