Using actors and real sets, the game places the player in the role of a U.S. 7th Cavalry lieutenant tasked with hunting down an outlaw gang disguised as native resistors during the post-Civil War period. The story is told entirely through live-action video clips triggered by player input.

Gameplay consists of a sequence of carefully scripted scenarios alternating between multi-target shootouts and high-stakes quick-draw duels. The player never controls character movement; instead, the screen shows prerecorded footage from fixed camera angles. The player’s role is to watch closely for visual cues, such as a subtle shift in an opponent’s stance or the glint of a revolver and react instantly by firing the light gun at the correct moment. Failure to shoot accurately within the precise timing windows results in immediate character death, shown through dramatic cinematic cutaways.

The game opens with a briefing scene followed by an ambush on a rural trail. It then moves to an intense shootout inside a saloon, introducing multiple simultaneous enemies. Quick-draw duels punctuate the gameplay, each one increasing in difficulty by requiring faster reflexes and more subtle cue recognition. Open plains ambushes and a precarious bridge confrontation further challenge the player’s speed and accuracy.

The climax is a final duel against the gang leader in a classic deserted street showdown. Success leads to a filmed ending showing the hero’s triumphant ride into the sunset, while failure results in a final death scene.
