Score of Cécile Chaminade's Concertstück [or Konzertstück, literally "concert piece"] Op. 40, performed in Belgium in 1888. This was the first piece that would finally grant her a wide and favourable success as a composer and not merely as a pianist (as she was mainly known as until then). Just like many other concert pieces, it is essentially a piano concerto but with just one movement and some formal liberties, though this piece is written in a flexible sonata form. Although the main theme's repetitiveness and lack of variety can become quite dull after a while, the true gem is found in the second, more lyrical and peaceful theme [5:21], which presents a more coherent and congruent orchestration than the in-your-face but nevertheless mesmerizing first one.

Performers: Christina Harnisch (piano); Donausinfonieorchester Budapest; Andras Deak (conductor)
