Associate Professor Neal Peres Da Costa (Chair of the SCM’s Historical Performance Unit) recently commissioned acclaimed piano maker Paul McNulty to build a replica of an 1868 Streicher piano owned by Johannes Brahms. Dr Peres Da Costa discusses the unique characteristics of the instrument which has been used by the chamber music ensemble Ironwood for recordings with the ABC of Brahms’s Op. 25 Piano Quartet and Op. 34 Piano Quintet.
