Rainbow E Series Vacuum Cleaner Latch / No-Power Fix DIY

This is how we fixed our Rainbow E Series Vacuum Cleaner Latches. When the latches are broken or not working closing correctly the water basin isn’t firmly pressed against the power unit. This loose fit prevents the notch near the top of the water basin from triggering the safety switch on the inside of the power unit. This disables the user from turning on the unit with the power switch.

Some models may be similar but the latches are slightly different. Be sure to look for your exact model when searching. Our model is the E-2. We found the latch for our model by searching for the Rainbow E-2 Vacuum Latch Assembly. For us the final part number was the Rainbow Latch Assembly E2 Replacement #78-7515-61.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
(1) When you purchase the replacement handles, the spring for the handle isn’t included. Make sure to keep the metal spring from the broken latch so use with the new latch. (4:37)
(2) It is important and relatively easy to remove the latch housing in order to the remove the pin that holds the latch onto the housing. (5:25)
(3) Look for the larger side of the pin to pull that one out first. Push the pin through from the thinner side. (14:02)
