TSS-TV, a broadcasting station in Hiroshima, the site of the atomic bombing, and the University of Idaho in the United States have begun a joint project in January 2024 to translate atomic bomb survivor testimonies and peace-related news into English and pass on the reality of the bombing to future generations.

For the first project, an English version of the atomic bombing testimony of survivor Shinso Hamai (broadcast on August 4, 2020) was produced, sending a message of peace from Hiroshima to the world.

(Commentary)
The person shown on the screen is Shinso Hamai, a former mayor of Hiroshima also known as the “Atomic Bomb Mayor” for his dedication to the reconstruction of Hiroshima following the war.

In 2020, marking the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombing, new footage of Hamai with his family was discovered, along with audio of his own voice believed to be from a university lecture, where he spoke about the reality of the bombing. The footage is believed to be from 1958, and the audio from 1967. The audio contains details of the events he witnessed on August 6th, 1945, and his desire for peace.
