Last week, we proudly reunited 5 U.S. Army soldiers with the dogs who they cared for while deployed overseas. These brave troops each came to the aide of 5 puppies that were born outside of their base last year. The father was run over by one of the locals trucks, and the mother was chased away, leaving these pups to fend for themselves, facing imminent death. Their survival was made possible by the quick thinking of the soldiers, who provided food, shelter, and lots of love.

Knowing that there was not much time, Paws of War began one of our most challenging rescue missions to date to save these dogs from a very remote location. With a lot of careful planning, plus the help of locals, we were able to bring these pups safely back to our headquarters in New York, where we provided care till their soldiers returned to the US Several months later.

Now that their soldiers are finally home, our team members Niki, and Angelique who happens to be a veteran herself, drove them out to Indiana for the long-awaited reunion. After several long months of being apart, these US Army soldiers could not have been happier to see their dogs again. This is a long time to be apart, especially when deployed overseas, so the soldiers truly didn’t know if these pups would make it.

The group of 5 dogs, who have come to be known as “the fab five”, clearly all felt the same way, as each was just as excited, if not more, to see their heroes again. This is what Paws of War is all about.
