Adrian Boult conducts the British Symphony Orchestra in his second-ever recording, made on November 16th, 1920 at the Gramophone Co. offices in Hayes. This was also the first recording of anything by Butterworth.

Boult would make four more commercial recordings of this, the last in 1973 for Lyrita.

The piece is cut by about 3 minutes to make it fit on two 78 rpm sides.
