The Lincoln Theatre opened in 1928 to create a space for, and to enjoy, the creative energy of the African American community. Discover how this theatre became of mecca for African Americans and how it transformed central Ohio into a center for Jazz music. Between the 1950s-70s, new interstate highways changed the area leaving the neighborhood desolate. Learn how the Lincoln Theatre endured, was revitalized and how it continues to serve as an integral part of the Central Ohio community today.

Ohio Open Doors is Sept. 11– 20, 2020. Ohio Open Doors was created in 2016 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act. Passed by Congress and signed in to law in 1966, the National Historic Preservation Act made preserving historic, architectural and archaeological resources whenever possible a policy of the federal government. Ohio continues to rank among our nation’s leading states in preserving historic places. Explore history in your own community and throughout our state!

We are excited to be featuring some of our hometown theatres! They are gathering places, social centers and are a big part of Ohio’s arts and culture. These historic places help define and distinguish our communities by building a strong sense of identity. They need our support during this time of extended closure.
