Join Nicky Grist for a walkaround tour of this EXTREMELY rate Group S Toyota MR-2 1986 owned by ex-Toyota Team Europe engineer Ernt Kopp at Eifel Rallye 2024.

So, what is "Group S"?

Group S rallying was a planned category for rally cars in the World Rally Championship (WRC) that never materialised. It was designed to replace the notorious Group B category, which was banned after 1986 due to a series of fatal accidents involving both drivers and spectators. Group B had featured extremely powerful and lightweight cars, making them incredibly fast but also dangerously hard to control.

Group S was designed to be a safer alternative, with a focus on prototypes rather than modified production cars like in Group B. The idea was to create experimental cars that would have stricter power limits, placing a greater emphasis on innovation and technology rather than sheer horsepower.

Would you have liked to rally one of these cars? 🫣 Let us know in the comments.
