"Today we have witnessed a very important discovery, that is of world significance. In Georgia's Dmanisi municipality village of Kvemo Orozmani, we have unearthed human teeth dated back to 1.8 million years. The discovery was conducted at the archaeological site that dates back to 1.8 million years. This is a very important event because it means that 20 kilometres from Dmanisi, the location where the oldest hominins have been found, there is another archaeological site with traces of oldest Euro Asian colonisers, its oldest inhabitants."

20. SOUNDBITE (Georgian) Nikoloz Vanishvili, palaeontologist:
"In Orozmani, we have discovered fauna that dates back 1.8 million years. Also, we have  found stone tools made by pre-historic hominins. The abundance of pre-historic fauna fossils is very important because it tells us a new chapter about Eurasia's early Pleistocene period and how palaeoecological niches were distributed. We also have received new information about animals. Here, we mainly have cud-chewing mammals, which are extinct nowadays. Also, predators like Etruscan wolf, Homotherium, archaic southern elephant. All these discoveries paint a very interesting picture and further analysis will provide very important information."

LEADIN:
Archaeologists in Georgia say they've unearthed a tooth, thought to be from an early human ancestor dating back 1.8 million years.
The discovery, at a site in the south of the country, is just 20 kilometres from where a 1.8-million-year-old pre-human skull was found in 2013.
STORYLINE:
Archaeologists are carefully placing their new discovery on view - what's thought to be a premolar tooth from an early hominid, dating back around 1.8 million years.
It's a discovery members of the Orozmani expedition in Georgia  have been anticipating for some time.
Giorgi Bidzinashvili, who heads the Orozmani expedition, says it's a historic discovery:
"It means that 20 kilometres from Dmanisi, the location where the oldest hominins have been found, there is another archaeological site with traces of oldest Euro Asian colonisers," he says.
Experts believe the discovery is an important link in understanding pre-human migration outside the African continent.
The early site is in the village of Orozmani, 100 kilometres southwest of Georgia's capital Tbilisi.
Experts believe fossils of extinct animals and primitive stone tools are an indication of the presence of hominins, the group consisting of modern humans and all our ancestors.
