If you want to enjoy the 14,115 ft views from Pike's Peak in Colorado, but you don't have the time to hike the Barr Trail, the Pike's Peak Cog Railway offers a memorable and enjoyable experience on the mountain. Today, you will join us in the front of the train as we climb Pike's Peak. We will show you a snapshot of the views from the top, then we ride back down with the same, beautiful view. Your view will be a hyperlapse from the front glass of the train. This beautiful journey from Manitou Springs will ascend 6,288 feet through beautiful groves of pines, aspens, other native trees, and eventually, tundra, when you clear the tree line at approximately 11,100 ft in this region.

The Cog Railway staff offer great information and a pleasant, relaxing experience during the 1 hour ride each way. You will learn about the history of the mountain, the construction of the railway, and about the key people in history who were inspired by this majestic place, including Katherine Lee Bates who published a poem called "America" on July 4th 1895, after her trip up Pike's Peak. In 1910 it was paired with music and republished in the Boston Evening Transcript in 1913 as America the Beautiful.

Note: Another benefit of the Cog Railway is they are happy to be a ride down the mountain if hike or run the trail to the summit. Hiking or running the Barr Trail is also a very awesome experience, just not quite a quick as this climate controlled trip to the top.
