Young Danny Bonaduce lands a leading role on television's The Partridge Family and looks forward to fame and fortune. But he soon finds that stardom creates its own special problems. His father, a struggling television writer, becomes abusive in his jealousy over Danny's success, while his co-star, serious musician David Cassidy, lashes out in his frustration over the groups sappy pop image. Band mom, Shirley Jones, watching helplessly as frictions on the set increase and Danny's real family disintegrates, convinces co-star Dave Madden to take the boy under his wing. In time, the actors develop real relationships with one another until, when the successful four-year run of The Partridge Family draws to a close, they realize that they have become as close as a real family.
