To make this video, I had permission to enter a Natura 2000 area with a drone. (Om deze video te maken had ik toestemming om met een drone een Natura 2000-gebied te betreden.)
Like the Sallandse Heuvelrug, the Lemelerberg formed during the penultimate ice age. The Lemelerberg is characterized by heathland, deciduous forest, and drifting sand plains.
Imagine a massive glacier, forcefully and without respect for its surroundings, pushing sand and gravel forward, creating a bulge some 80 meters high. This happened some 150,000 years ago. The result: the Lemelerberg. On a European scale, the Lemelerberg is so unique that it's a Natura 2000 area. It's truly one of our natural gems.
There's a statue atop the mountain. The "lion statue" on the Lemelerberg is a monumental red lion. The lion was installed in 1893, a time when many families in Dutch cities lived in poverty, as a symbol of strength, and it watches over the park.

Nature helps lower the stress hormone cortisol and increase happiness hormones like serotonin.
A hike or simply spending time in a green environment can improve your mood, make you happier, and reduce feelings of pain, anxiety, and depression.
Natural sounds and scents, such as rustling leaves or the smell of wet grass, have a calming effect on the brain and nervous system.
