In the previous four episodes we saw,
Pronunciation differences, meaning differences, spelling difference of some words, and date formats in different English varieties.
In the episodes before that, we saw how to improve the listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities.
In this episode, let us think about corporate jargon phrases.
Corporate jargon phrases are those business language that we use in the offices.
Understanding them is important in the official life for successful communication.
The first jargon phrase is, Shall I ping you?
It means, shall I get in touch with you using an online messaging system?
The next jargon that comes in discussions is, We both will discuss this offline.
This means, We both will talk about this not here because others may not be interested or we need to move ahead with the set agenda here.
You might hear this jargon - The idea is not scalable.
That means, The idea won't hold good when more things happen in the future as it cannot accommodate growth.
This is yet another jargon - Do you have the bandwidth to do this?
The meaning is, Do you have the time and resources to do this?
This is an interesting jargon - Let us first deal with the lower hanging fruit.
This means, Let us first tackle those challenges that are easy to solve.
Now a common one - Out of the box
Meanings differ slightly based on context. It means, let us think different from the normal.
See whether you understand this example - These reports will be out of the box.
Here it means, no need to customize the reports. The reports can be used as it is.
This jargon comes more in software industry - The product does not come with bells and whistles.
This phrase means, The product does not have any fancy features. It has, only what is needed.
This jargon is used in many occasions - We work from our brick and mortar office only twice a week.
The meaning of this phrase is, We work from the physical location of our office only twice a week.
During discussions this jargon is mentioned - We shall circle back on this later.
This means, We shall bring back this topic and discuss it later.
Another jargon is seen here - Please be prepared with the deck.
Generally this means, Please be prepared with the (PowerPoint) presentation.
