Bab L'Bluz was created in 2018 in Marrakech by Brice Bottin and Yousra Mansour. It is a French-Moroccan quartet that mixes Moroccan music traditions such as gnawa and chaabi with contemporary styles such as rock, blues and funk. In addition to drums and guitars, the lineup also includes traditional gnawa instruments such as the qraqebs (metal castanets), guembri (bass closing, covered with camel skin) and awisha (a smaller, higher-end version of the guembri). Bab L'Bluz likes to emphasize that the guembri is at the origin of the blues. Their music is a tribute to the inexhaustible roots of Gnawa culture.
