Former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney says the early voting trend does show the Republicans are doing better than what the Democrats expected.

Millions in the US have cast their votes early for the presidential election with the Wall Street Journal claiming the Republicans have ‘eaten into’ the Democrats’ early voting advantage.

“Keep in mind, yes, the Democrats are still turning out more people in this early voting period than Republicans are but not by as large a margin as they have historically,” Mr Mulvaney told Sky News host James Morrow.

“I do think it sends the message that Republicans are doing better than even the Democrats expected.”
