Maternal Mortality: A Crisis for Women in India

A moment of unimaginable joy is what a mother feels when a newborn is placed in her arms. Unfortunately, many women in India are denied this beautiful experience. According to a report by the United Nations, a woman dies during pregnancy or childbirth every two minutes. India recorded second-highest number of maternal deaths in 2020, as per the latest available data.

As India marks, National Safe Motherhood Day (NSMD) let's take a look the crisis that expecting mothers faces.

Note: NSMD is observed on 11 April every year to create awareness about maternity facilities, lactating women, and also for proper health care given to women.
