Jackfruit is a very popular vegetable, as well as fruit (when ripe) in Sri Lanka, having many health benefits to it, in addition to being a very versatile as well as tasty vegetable/fruit. Almost all parts of the Jackfruit can be eaten, the raw or ripe flesh, as well as the seeds. Jackfruit seeds can even be boiled or roasted to make a yummy snack.

Jackfruit is high in nutrients such as vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin C, Folate, Niacin, Riboflavin, Potassium and Magnesium, as well as antioxidants, such as Carotenoids. Eating Jackfruit may help reduce the risk of Cataracts and other eye diseases, heart disease and cancer.

While it is a staple food among the rural population of Sri Lanka, for the town-living few, it is certainly a delicacy, and a very tasty one at that!
