What You'll Learn:

🎯 Setting Up the Base Bar Chart

Start by dragging the Region dimension to the Rows shelf and Sales to the Columns shelf to create a standard bar chart.
Fit the entire view and sort the data as needed to organize your visualization effectively.
🎨 Applying Color to Regions

Drag the Region dimension onto the Color shelf to differentiate each region with distinct colors, enhancing the visual appeal and clarity of your chart.
🔧 Creating a Calculated Field for Zero

Create a new calculated field named Zero with the formula MAX(0). This field will be used to add a portion to the bar chart that helps in achieving the rounded effect.
📈 Adding the Zero Field to Columns

Drag the Zero field to the Columns shelf next to the original Sales measure. This action creates a second axis for your chart.
📊 Duplicating the Sales Measure

Hold the Ctrl key and drag a copy of the Sales measure onto the Zero axis. This will generate Measure Names and Measure Values on the Measure Values shelf.
🔄 Configuring Dual Axes

Change the chart type for the Sales measure to a Bar chart and the Measure Values to a Circle on the Marks card.
Right-click on the second Sales pill and select Dual Axis to overlay the two charts.
Synchronize the axes by right-clicking on one of the axes and selecting Synchronize Axis to ensure both measures align correctly.
✂️ Cleaning Up the Chart

Remove the Measure Names and Measure Values pills from the view to declutter the chart.
Adjust the size of the circles and bars to achieve the desired rounded effect, making sure the bars appear smooth and aesthetically pleasing.
📐 Final Adjustments and Customization

Fine-tune the positioning and sizing of your rounded bar chart elements to fit your dashboard layout perfectly.
Ensure that the colors and sizes are consistent and that the rounded bars enhance the overall readability of your data visualization.

Welcome to our YouTube tutorial on creating a rounded bar chart in Tableau! In this video, we will guide you through the process of building this unique chart type using a dual axis approach. Let's get started!

To begin, open Tableau and create a new sheet where we'll construct our rounded bar chart.

Step 1: Building the Bar Chart
Start by adding the "Category" field to the Rows shelf, the "Subcategory" field to the Rows shelf, and the "Sales" field to the Columns shelf. To ensure the bars are sorted from highest to lowest, right-click on the "Sales" axis, choose "Sort," and select the desired sorting order. Next, click on "Fit entire view" to adjust the chart's display.

Step 2: Creating Circles for Rounded Effect
As there isn't a default option for a rounded bar chart in Tableau, we will simulate the effect using circles. Place a calculated field on the Columns shelf by right-clicking in the field list area, selecting "Create Calculated Field," and naming it "Min of Zero." Set the formula for this field as "MIN(0)" and click "Apply" to create the field.

Now, add the newly created "Min of Zero" field to the Columns shelf alongside the "Sales" field. We will use this to create a dual axis chart.

Step 3: Dual Axis Setup
To create a dual axis, we need to drag a copy of the "Sales" field to the "Min of Zero" axis. This will enable us to have both "Measure Names" and "Measure Values" displayed. Simply drag the "Sales" field and drop it on the "Min of Zero" axis.
