When you have spent a bit of time making fishing lures, everything starts to look like a fishing lure and biro pen lids have always screamed jig head to me. A couple of weeks ago i went to buy some Savage Gear sand eel jig heads and could not believe the price, so i left them in the shop and decided to break out the pencil case and get on with making my own. It took a couple of pen lids to figure things out, like where to put the hook and eyes and also keeper. I did have a savage gear eel jig head for reference, but as i was using lead free pewter for casting my jig was a little large but about the same weight at 15grams. I used a savage gear sand eel tail in the video because i Haven't made my own yet. The jig head work great, the tail on the hand really needed s some speed to get that tail moving but once on steady fast retrieve it really looked great water. I shall be taking this out next year for pollock or hopefully some bass

Tools and Materials

Biro pen lid

1.5mm -2mm drill for drilling out the hook hole

stanley knife for chopping off the pen lid tails

dremel with sanding or grinding head

4mm drill for eye sockets

wax, edam cheese wax is what i use to fill the body and make the spout

short piece of wire for joining head to pour spout

jig head of you choice this was 5/0

thin stainless wire .8mm for hook keeper

Plastic or cardboard covered with gaffer tape for mold box

glue gun to seal the mold box down to a smooth surface

baby powder and blower for dusting the mold

Lead free pewter from ebay

single ring cooker or kitchen cooker for heating

small metal kitchen ,measuring cup for melting the pewter

tea spoon for scraping off the dross

snips for removing the pour spout

I used a file to clean up the end

wire wool for polishing

4mm 3d eyes from eBay glued on with superglue
