↪ Trichomoniasis in men

Hello dear patients. Today we are going to review the case of trichomoniasis in men. A young man came to us and about a year ago he had a sexual contact with a prostitute. So, he was checked in dermatovenerologic dispensary, he did a usual smear test and trichomonad was found. Metronidazol was prescribed for 7 days, he took it and some small complaints disappeared and for a year he didn’t pay attention at that issue. He came to us with first cold weather, when he sat on a car seat that was not warmed, there was quite a strong pain in anus. There were small discharges with which he came to us. So, on examination, trichomonad was found, it was undertreated, which often happens in those who like tablets – both doctors and the patients when the effect is not at all reached.

Considering that metronidazol is about 50 years old, then the resistance for it is quite high. The most important thing is that no auxillary medications were used that provide at least 50 percent of success. We are not going to talk about it. Considering the presence of pains in the area of anus, we also did ultrasound study and we found fibrous prostatitis there. So, scars started to form during the year. Leukocytosis in prostate was 40 to 50 – this is quite a subacute inflammation. Based on my experience I can say that trichomonad quite often leads to appearance of prostatitis in men, this is its feature of build-up with the presence of flagella and relatively quick migration to prostate and as a result of that, it induces inflammation there.

It lead at least to remission, we cannot talk about the complete healing as scars in prostate can be removed only by surgical way. In any case, leukocytosis disappeared and trichomonad disappeared from analyses, which is quite important as the person became non-infectious. It’s good that this time was limited to one year as if he was carrying trichomonad for a longer period of time, then stones would form and we have quite a lot of patients who decided to save money, to drink some tablets and they have calculous prostatitis when there are stones inside the prostate and it’s impossible to get quite large stones out of it.
