Have you ever started correcting a car and then gone to wipe your compound off but found it was stuck to the paint and could not be wiped off? Or it just kinda looked frozen there while you are trying to work it in? This happens to everyone and this video I have some theories about it and by theories I mean what I was taught but am not 100% sure if its the real reason. I will also demonstrate the potential methods of removal though in this case only 1 of them worked.

This Jaguar XK in metallic black came to me in very swirly condition for a full correction that we were prepared to possible do a 3 stage correction on and it basically ended up being that way in the end. We were working out of my friends vinyl wrap shop in Santa Ana CA Templar wraps, it was 95 degrees outside and incredibly humid so we had terrible working conditions basically.

We got the car prepped easily enough but then when we started to compound I noticed that it was behaving funny and not wiping off or breaking down right at least for me. My employee did not suffer the same fate, we were using same compound, same pads, same speed but he had a rupes MK 2 21 with a 5 inch plate on it and I had my new MK 3 21 with a 5 inch plate so maybe my machine was generating more power or heat or who knows.

When this happens it becomes super difficult to check your work because you can't really see past the compound hazed and stuck to the paint. I had to go back over quite a few spots later and re - correct because there were scratches I did not get out in my initial passes. First try slowing your speed down and using more and/or less product. If this does not work on then move on to the below.

One of the ways you can attempt to remove stuck compound on some surfaces is to use water or a clay lube like shine supply shine mist and do a wet wipe, if this does not work that then that sucks. You can also try do a wet pass after your initial pass with compound, blow out your pad and spritz with water or lubricant solution and then do a slow pass sometimes this will help to finish everything down but again it did not work here. When its hot out our pads generate a lot of heat so spritzing with water can really help to keep the panel and the pad cool which can help reduce stuff like this.

You can also try the classic meguiars 205 diluted in water to use as like a light polish spray to remove this haze or finish out soft paint like the NSX which i will include a link to the video for

The most common fix is to grab a secondary machine or a foam pad and polish and do a slow pass over everything, this will remove everything easily and wipe right off. This just adds extra steps when you have to do this repeatedly to check to see if you got swirls out before moving on. This happens on soft paints, it happens in high heat and humidity, it happens when the machine is going too fast on certain finishes, or just at random. Sometimes its the product, some products work better on finishes that others don't. Its rare I need to grab another compound but sometimes that is the case.

If this happens you are in for a tough day but don't let it discourage you too badly just try to work in section and do the extra work, if you are working in a perfect controlled environment and the paint itself is just super sticky you may consider calling your customer to let them know additional time will be needed and possibly additional cost. I have had to deal with this on mostly black cars but also cars of other colors occasionally, in my Meguiars M110 review video on the kia stinger GT, it did the same thing.
