7 Steps to wash your motorcycle

Описание к видео 7 Steps to wash your motorcycle

I usually wash my bike every 2-3 months. In between washes I will use dry clean method if the bike is dirty. Below are the 7 steps for beginner bikers who like to clean the bike themselves.

Step 1
Wash the chain drive. Spray Kerosene on the chain and sprocket, and scrub with chain brush. Wash it off with water. Repeat the process if needed. The best way to clean the chain drive is to remove the front sprocket cover and chain guide before applying kerosene. However, in this video I am not removing them as I just removed and cleaned them 3 months ago, and I know my front sprocket is not very dirty yet.

Step 2
Wash the wheels. I’m using Sonax wheel cleaner, but you can do it with Kerosene as well. Just be sure you don’t spray directly into the wheel hub bearings.
After apply wheel cleaner, irritate the dirts with a brush. Then wash off with water.

Step 3
Wash the bike. Rinse the whole bike with water first. Then apply car wash liquid, for me I am using Muc-off cleaner. After that scrub the bike with clean microfiber cloth. This part is extremely important, start scrubbing the tank and fairing first, then move on to windshield and other parts. This is to prevent scratching the tank and fairing caused by the dirt that was sticked on the cloth. Wash off with water once done, also start from top then to bottom.

Step 4
Dry the bike. Wipe it off with clean cloths. If you have leaves blower, you can also use that to blow off the water. Lastly, wipe dry the chain.

Step 5
Once the chain is dry, lube the chain. In this video, I’m using LiquiMoly white chain lube. Lightly lube the chain, avoid over lube otherwise be prepared with nasty oil flings later on.

Step 6
Polish the paintwork. I’m using Meguairs ultimate compound. Polishing can be done by hand or machine. In this video, I’m using portable hand drill with sponge attached on the drill bit, this setup makes my life easier. The purpose of polishing is to remove minor scratches and swirl marks. You don’t have to polish the paintwork if there is no scratches. I usually do it once every 6-9 months, just to remove the minor scratches. Wipe it clean using a clean microfiber cloth.

Step 7
Wax the paint. This step is important. It helps to protect the paintwork from hash environment. I’m using Meguair Fast Finish. There are many type and brand of wax around, just choose one that you prefer, and apply it based on product instruction. I like Meguairs fast finish because it is very easy to apply, and it can last a long time.
