Daniël Wismeijer presented insights into how to use 3D printing technology in oral implantology for digitally planned dentures - as well as for crowns and bridges.

Prof. Dr. Daniël Wismeijer studied dentistry at the University of Nijmegen Dental School, The Netherlands.

After graduating, he joined the Department of Oral Function and worked in the special dental care and maxillofacial prosthodontics section. He received his PhD in overdentures on dental implants “The Breda Implant Overdenture Study.” From 1985 to 2006, he worked at the Amphia teaching hospital in Breda, The Netherlands, in the Department of Oral Surgery and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics.

In 1985, Prof. Dr. Daniël Wismeijer started a general dental practice, which since 1990, has been a referral practice for oral implantology.

He is also a Past President of the Dutch Prosthodontic Association and the Dutch Association for Gnathology. Prof. Dr. Wismeijer has served in the ITI as a member of the education core group and as a member of the ITI research committee. In 2013, Prof. Dr. Wismeijer was elected as an ITI board member at large. He became Chairman of the ITI education committee five years ago.

In 2006, Prof. Dr. Daniël Wismeijer accepted the position of Professor of Oral Implantology and Prosthetic Dentistry at ACTA Amsterdam. The research areas in his section include CAD/CAM treatment optimisation, digital dentistry, treatment evaluation and workflow, implant surface and bone substitute optimisation, peri-implantitis, 3D printing in dentistry, and the evaluation of different implant-based treatment modalities. In January 2020, he completed his role at the Academisch Centrum Tandheelkunde Amsterdam (ACTA).
