Massive beach cleanup in Ithaca, Greece

Описание к видео Massive beach cleanup in Ithaca, Greece

In 8 days and with a team of 45 (mostly volunteers) we cleaned up four beaches in the Southwest of Ithaca. A small island in Greece where a fish farm was abandoned after the company went bankrupt in 2012. The beaches were littered with huge plastic pipes, fishing nets, nylon ropes, concrete blocks, plastic buoys and over 150 bags of polystyrene foam beads!

“We couldn’t believe our eyes! After shovelling the polystyrene foam beads into plastic bags for 5 days we realised that we needed another solution to leave the beach as clean as possible. Thankfully, we found an industrial vacuum cleaner which we refitted using a volunteer’s mesh bag as a filter” says Healthy Seas director Veronika Mikos.
