Описание к видео Black History - Edward & Sallie Evans

Edward Evans, Sr. was known as one of the great educators in the Fayetteville area. While a student at the State Normal School he met Sallie Elliott and they were married on June 25, 1891. Before Sallie married Edward, she owned a considerable amount of land in Fayetteville. In addition to her skills as an educator, Sallie was a very skilled business woman. Edward and Sallie both graduated from the Fayetteville State Normal School and both embarked upon careers in education.

Edward’s teaching career spanned 55 years. For a period of 12 years, he taught in the Fayetteville Elementary School, then embarked on a teaching assignment at the Fayetteville Normal School and for a time served as vice principal at the Orange Street School alongside E.E. Smith. The building constructed in 1915, still exists at 600 Orange Street.
